Cybersecurity is a key component of any business. Business leaders must use these systems with caution and with a sense of urgency, since they could be targeted by cyberattacks. Business development involves identifying new opportunities, developing and maintaining connections with customers, entering strategic alliances, and preparing strategies to boost profits. It impacts virtually every aspect of a business from marketing to human resources.
To answer the research question, “How does a company’s use of cybersecurity technology affect its performance?” we examined the impact of various technological environmental, organizational and other factors on an organization’s intention to adopt these technologies. We used the TOE framework to examine the impact of these variables on the organization’s willingness and ability to adopt cybersecurity technologies.
The TOE framework consists of four components: (1) perceived utility, (2) perceived ease-of-use and (3) visibility. These three variables influenced organizations’ intention to adopt cybersecurity techniques as well as their performance. Additionally, competition pressure and vendor support also have a positive impact on the companies’ willingness to adopt these technologies.
Cyberattacks are more frequent than ever, and can be devastating to the reputation of a business, its financial standing, and operational capabilities. The most recent cybersecurity technologies are capable of helping businesses avoid these scratches and improve financial performance. It’s time for us to change our perspective from a view of cybersecurity as a costly defensive expense to seeing it as a function which drives growth.
